Open Question

David.
Could you explain the relevance of short interest? As an example, AMED has (per
ameritrade) a 17% short interest. It's moved from my entry at 31.88 to a high
earlier today of 38.59. (nice company, cut in half by fear of the government).
Would the shorts have covered already or are they just hapopy because they may
have gotten in a long time ago?
Does the remaining short interest influence the price of this stock?
I know this is a messy question, sorry.

hey madi, i mean calla lilly...you forgot another option:
1. the stock could rise cause it's all good.
2. or maybe from a squeeze,
3. or maybe it's a bad stock nut it's sector/industry is hot (60% of a stocks
move)and it gets a free ride higher.

Thanks ...
So is the stock rising because it's all good or because of a short squeeze?

Short interest is a measure of the number of shares that investors are using to
bet against a stock price.

Even though we now get a snapshot at that number twice a month, it's still very
stale... especially in this volatile environment.

By the way, on Bloomberg I'm showing an even higher number for AMED... 9.7
million shares, or 35% of the shares outstanding.

In any case, that's a huge number... down from 14 million in February no less.
Given the jump in the stock in recent weeks, I'll bet that some of those folks
covered.

That said, the next number posted, will only cover through the end of April, and
AMED is up another 4 points since then.
