Merger and acquisition deal premiums vary widely. A back-of-the-envelope
calculation with my Bloomberg terminal shows the average deal premium in the
U.S., so far this year, to be 75.4%. On Mar. 10, just prior to Axsys
Technologies disclosing that it was shopping itself for a buyer, the stock
closed at $27.37. 75% higher puts the over/under on a deal at $48, around 12%
above the current trading level. TheStreet.com Rating model for U.S. common
stocks continues to rate AXYS a “Buy” with a recent upgrade to B+ from B.
