Get James "Rev Shark" Deporre's book on trading, Invest Like A Shark
or whatever it's called. Read it before anything else. Then read it again before
trading anything. It will help you develop the mindset and patient attitude you
need to as you unemotionally wait for opportunity, and run when it's time to
swim away. This is before you even need to think about how to read a stock
chart, although he includes some of that too. Many trading books are more
involved in charts, beating the candlestick and bollinger banks, moving
averages, etc, to death, but are unnecessary. I've wasted money on such books. A
couple of moving averages and the ability to draw a straight line and do
homework and follow the news are all you really need. Earnings and other news
events regarding a specific stock and the market in general have far more effect
on what your stocks do than what a chart says. Charts are best used for general
trends and relative short term timing when it's time to trade. In today's
market, with falling knives everywhere, they're not even good for that. At best,
you might spot a winner when the market is crashing. There are very few of those
right now, which go totally counter to the averages.

Recommendation for day trading: Seek a CPA, accountant or Certified Financial
Advisor who is qualified and actually experienced in the subject matter of day
trading. Contract for 30 to 60 minutes in order to ask detailed questions about
responsibilities of recordkeeping, the various tax rules and regulations as well
as what their clients' success rates are and how did they establish themselves
in the business of day trading, etc. The subjective aspects posted in your
original post regarding books, websites, software and trading platforms could
also be addressed during the scheduled interview/conference.

Otherwise, google 'day trading' and explore the information available at your
leisure. But without paying for professional guidance, you are likely going to
end up paying for the services of a CPA several times over, have many sleepless
nights and have to deal with a paper nightmare from hell.

Ryan may be on the right track in associating with gamblers anonymous because
you will be in the company of folks who rarely are well-grounded, likely to lose
a lot of money quickly employing a multitude of methods, usually in a constant
state of learning, enjoy being entertained, and are easily amused . . . until
the money is gone.
