What is the major news out there dragging down the futures? I see the AIG news
but struggle to see how that could possibly be a big surprise.....

The sheer size of the insurance and derivative contracts on AIG books is bad
enough. However, as the markets get worse, AIG exposure to those risks that it
insured is getting larger. Thus AIG is caught in a viscous downward spiral.

AIG might be hurting general market sentiment, but the stock is up around 14% on
news of further government intervention. GE, a major bellwether, cut its
dividend significantly. Some positive economic news regarding consumer spending,
but not strong enough to indicate a turnaround. HSBC, one of the few banks that
managed to keep its name out of the papers in recent months, is cutting 6,000 US
jobs and trimming exposure to consumer credit. HSBC was one of the only
financials to post a profit for 2008.
AIG executives should not be talking on CNBC.Making appointments instead for
ankle bracelet measurements and orange jumpsuit tailoring. These stooges could
not organize a keg party at a Frat House let alone a major company. Now a minor
company.

no one wants too buy her i think thats one of the biggest problems
I've been reading & knowing for months that Eu is worse than us. That's the
advantage of having a wife from EU, Romania & she has family in Spain. I watch
their news, because of my wife, but I like listening to their news in native
tongue. I read BushinessWeek & The Economist yesterday & today & it looks ugly.
BBTV is also reporting news that confirm what I've been seeing & confirms we
have more bad news to come. Panndoras box was openend last spring, yet the
effects are far from over.
Also we have no clue or should I say we're doing the wrong moves to get us out
of this situation. I wait for the unrest to begin. Tea Parties are springing
up... go Santelli.
I'm seeing inverted hammers and dojis on Friday's charts.
Fair enough.... that's what I was thinking...
Futures are easily manipulated, it means nothing till the market actually opens.
But you already know that.
