Open Question

OK Dan - the markets taking off their 3-D glasses after the Geitner speech
realizing that nothing specific is in place yet. Big surprise. What's your
take on market direction here? Just a temporary pullback or should be keep our
tray tables up and seatbelts tightened?

I think the market ultimately moves lower because there is no effective
government-based fix. It simply does not exist and this is not a reflection on
the current administration.

Washington always tries to fix any problem because that's what politicians do.

At some point, the investing public is going to catch on to the irrefutable
truth that campaign promises and rhetoric do not equate to knowledge and
experience. Geithner just revealed that they have no plan; that they are
winging it. And town hall meetings held by some ostensibly charismatic guy who
pronounces "policy" as "poli-seh" are not going to do anything more than get the
crowd all amped up like a Baptist church congregation on Sunday. The
cheerleaders don't play the game. They get the crowd going. But if the game is
boring, the excitement fizzles.

The game is boring because there will be no touchdowns scored.

I continue to believe that any rally should be sold into until that tactic is
disproven by price action.

The market just may surprise us all and rally farther and faster than we think
it should simply as a function of fear among money managers who do not want to
miss a rally.

But the fundamentals and economic trends do not support much upside...and they
support a great deal of downside.

Turn off all electronic devices. We'll be coming through the cabin to collect
all cups and trash.
