My 401k has lost more that 10% unfortunately. But like I said, I'm in the bond
fund and it's up for the qtr. I swapped to it in early July. To bad I didn't
listen to my advice and go there in May.

My 401k has a bond fund, and that's where I am. It's actually been going up on
all the big down days. Not much granted, but at least its positive.

the 401k penalty is what...10%.....bet the 401k's have lost more than 10% since
fear was first introduced in 2007. yes we didn't know it was gonna last this
long but after month 9 rolled by....we new we're scrwd. risk tolerance vs
capital preservation....if you can afford to lose your investments...then i'd
say risk it, but if this is all you got and what your going to live off
of....pillow time. in fact i'm at pillow time, due to my fault and the catch 22
rule for truckers.....wish me luck looking for a new job.

An Individual Investor knows what is in his Portfolio.Someone in a 401 K still
thinks he has 3/4 's of a million in his.

Actually there is a difference (I like arguing with you Mike :) ). The 401k
investor can't pull his money out of the market (without penalty), so he's
stuck. The individual investor can pull his money out and stop his loses. I'm
both, so I've pulled all my money out of the market that I could, so I'm 100%
cash. And I've heaved my 401k as close to cash as possible. I have stopped
most of the bleeding, but the 401k is still in intensive care. The investment
portfolio has been moved out of intensive care and is in recovery, soon to be
released.
