I am a 57 year old unemployed engineer. I am financially secure enough that I could retire modestly right now, but would prefer to work another 3-5 years.
In 1997 I had a $12000 windfall that I traded into a $170000 nest-egg prior to the 2000 crash. I was in a conservative enough position at that time that I was still up a net 200% at the depths of the market, but it was still a disappointment to lose all that value, when I knew I should have been selling in late 1999 and didn't.
Now that I have time on my hands, I am looking to become a more active manager of my portfolio and to diversify out of a tech-heavy weighting.
