Why I Love This Stock

By:barrons3

Date:11 14 09

Wynn Resorts (WYNN) dealt out a special dividend of $4 a share, which will cost the casino and resort developer about $492 million on its 123.1 million common shares outstanding. Billionaire founder and CEO Stephen A. Wynn, who owns 18% of the company's stock, will reap $88.6 million of that sum. Wynn intends to initiate quarterly dividends starting at 20 cents a share in next year's first quarter. The bonus will be distributed Dec. 3 to investors on Wynn's books Nov. 19. The stock goes ex-dividend Nov. 17. Wynn went public in 2002 and paid special dividends of $6 a share in both 2006 and 2007. Wynn Resorts has $3.1 billion in cash and long-term debt of $4.1 billion, manageable especially compared to its peers. Third-quarter net fell to 28 cents a share from 49 cents a year earlier, still ahead of Wall Street's consensus guess of 16 cents. Revenue rose 0.5%, to $773.1 million. "Although gaming stocks are not historically valued based on dividend yield, we believe the special cash dividend, in addition to a regular cash dividend, will serve as key support for the shares' premium valuation," wrote Oppenheimer gaming analyst David Katz in a research note.

Pete Najarian highlights companies like Freeport-McMoran (FCX), Wynn (WYNN) and ConocoPhillips (COP) who have instituted or raised dividends, but the more important point here is that companies have strengthened their balance sheets.

According to Cramer, there are only a few safe havens from the jobless U.S. recovery, and they're all plays on China. He said stocks like Wynn Resorts (WYNN), which is poised to spin off its Macau operations, is one bright spot in the markets.

These stocks are all inexpensive if you believe the world's economy is turning. None of these stocks is going to "quit" if the business continues to get stronger. The market is saying that the economy is getting stronger, so eventually others will come around to doing what I did yesterday with Wynn (WYNN), saying it should go to $100 off of Macau, or what I did today with Google, saying it should go to $600, or as I did last week with Apple (AAPL), saying it will go to $264.

The quickest ones to react were the casinos, as it was easy to see that the Chinese would meddle with Macau. They should do more meddling, as Wynn (WYNN) has now exceeded my longstanding price target and Las Vegas Sands (LVS) is back from the dead with a vengeance.
