Why I Love This Stock

The one thing Corbin fears is fresh trouble in the banking system and another round of selloffs in financial shares. For now, his favorite stocks are UPS (UPS), Pfizer and Medtronic (MDT). "These companies have low price/earnings ratios and decent yields, and franchises that are unlikely to be damaged in a downturn," he says.

From a recent Mad Money show:"UPS yields north of 4% now. They've got costs under control and they've got room to grow the dividend. It might be a bumpy ride, but I like them."

Federal Express (FDX), UPS (UPS), Norfolk Southern (NSX), Union Pacific (UNP), you name it. There's such an unbelievable amount of pressure from this group, one that I still respect as a tell on things. If we had them reverse and start going higher, it would at least give me a sense that the Chinese rally and the Baltic Freight rally are going to eventually affect us.

From a recent Mad Money show:"I am astounded this one is so low. It's so well run and it yields 4%. I say it's time to buy, I'll bless it."

“With gasoline prices plummeting, I see that every major state has enacted some form of an emergency gas tax to help fill the diminishing coffers and patch up gaping holes in budgets. It may be one of those rare bits of good news stemming from the radical deflation of commodities. I am surprised that California doesn't have one, and I figure that New Jersey, one of the states with horrible finances (perhaps among the worst, although not rivaling California or Michigan), will put one in place shortly.
I think we continually underestimate the impact of still lower gasoline prices on a host of industries. Ford (F) could get a windfall because it still has a big line of heavy duty gas guzzlers that are immensely popular. General Motors (GM) is a hard call because of its ownership structure, although I am sure it will pop with the GMAC deal. I'd sell it.
If United Parcel Service (UPS) had any traffic, it has a huge fuel surcharge that it can slowly diminish to help the margins. YRC Worldwide (YRCW) had a great one, but I think that company is now a goner. Obviously, I have already discussed the retail benefit, but it looks like that didn't matter much.
If we could get strapped states less strapped and if we could get stimulus going, we might have a chance to avert the longest slowdown we have had in 70 years. Gasoline's a good prop, so are government borrowings, so are lower mortgages.
Unfortunately, unless we make every institution a bank, we are not going to get the credit we so badly need flowing again.”

From a recent Mad Money show: "This one's problematic. I think that it's inexpensive, but I don't see a big Christmas coming for them. Let's stay away for now."

If you try this one get out berfore earnings. Fuel and Gasoline prices are hurting bottom lines. Customer base continues to retract due to increasing fuel surcharges as well as increased pricing for shipments. Once the economy starts to stabilize, this will be one of the first places it will show up. This is a great company at the right time, but it is a good economic guage at other times.
