Back in the black this fiscal year, diversified industrial manufacturer Tyco International hiked its common dividend 33% Tuesday. The boost follows a 36% increase a year ago. Based in Bermuda but operated from New Jersey, Tyco (TYC), two of whose former top executives are in prison for looting hundreds of millions in company funds to finance lavish lifestyles, will now pay a quarterly dividend of 20 cents a share, versus 15 cents. Disbursement is slated Nov. 3 to investors on the books Oct. 1. The stock goes ex-dividend Sept. 29. Yield: 1.94%. Said CEO Ed Breen: "The increase in our quarterly dividend reflects our solid performance and progress this year, and our continued strong cash flow." The $19 billion company has paid dividends continually since 1975.

In a world of relentless gloom, the bottoming of the Shanghai market would be a huge positive. It would be something that would make it so you wouldn't endlessly be focusing on the bad. It would make GE (GE) and United Tech (UTX) and Tyco (TYC) and Honeywell (HON) more palatable. It would help aerospace -- they were adding airplanes at one time there -- and agriculture. It would stop making for such easy shorting!

The provider of security products announced a buyback plan worth up to $1 billion in common stock. This buyback will be added to its previous $1 billion buyback plan which began last September and is near termination.

“This new program is consistent with our plan to return a portion of our excess cash flow to shareholders through share repurchases,” said Ed Breen, Tyco Chairman and CEO. “To this point in fiscal 2008, we have repurchased approximately 4% of our outstanding shares and this new program provides us with the flexibility to purchase additional shares in the future."

The Bermuda-based company will announce third quarter results on Thursday, July 31, 2008 before the opening bell.

Analysts at Deutsche Bank have a buy rating on the TYC. After a meeting with Tyco's CFO, Chris Coughlin, they noted the following key points. "ADT residential is largely unscathed by the bulge in foreclosures and the general malaise in the housing market.”

The analysts continued, “We remain attracted to TYC's more defensive characteristics, the portfolio restructuring story and the discounted valuation of 6.3x EBITDA and 12.9x EPS. We reiterate buy and $54.”

Tyco International (TYC) was upgraded to Buy, Merrill Lynch said. Estimates also raised, following the company's positive earnings pre-announcement. Business mix should be more resillient to an economic slowdown.

A. i'm pretty sure the outlook for fwd M
won't change until they actually issue
out that stock....which might be a
reason they are needing to issue more to
cover that 227% increase of "other
liabilities".

so....if they do issue you know the
earnings est. will get cut almost in
half, which would put it at a fwd 6
month price of 2.40ish.
if you want to follow big money (which
i'm going to do today) (i hope today is
not trigger day) get in JASO.
