'Speed Racer' Crashes, Burns McDonald's
Speed Racer' stalled at the box office this weekend, proving to be the summer's first big flop. The movie's poor performance will not only be felt by Warner Brothers' parent Time Warner, but in McDonald's restaurants and Target stores across the country. Here's why.

Given the current market atmosphere, he believes the best areas for investors are "mega-cap stocks" (with market capitalizations of $40 billion-plus in technology, financial services, cable and select retail sectors. This includes names like Staples (SPLS), Wal-Mart, Time Warner (TWX), McGraw-Hill (MHP) and Cisco Systems (CSCO).

While the stock, at about 15.70, trades at 14.4 times projected 2008 earnings, the core business fetches less than 10 times 2008 earnings. If the core business were to trade up to 12 times 2008 earnings, which is at the low end of its peer multiples, the stock could see considerable upside. Just don't expect it to happen all at once. After all, this is Time Warner.

We also like some cable companies, including Time Warner [TWX]. These companies have always traded at discounts to their private-market values. But we expect them to have high-single-digit cash-flow growth this year. Warner has a catalyst, given that [President and Chief Executive Jeffrey] Bewkes has telegraphed he's going to be splitting up the company. Time Warner trades at a significant discount to what we think its intrinsic value is, and it doesn't have a lot of debt. We believe, whether it's through dividends or buying back shares, they are going to releverage their balance sheet.
