Why I Love This Stock

He also gave the nod to the fertilizer stocks of Potash (POT), Agrium (AG) and Mosaic (MOS). Cramer said that while Potash remains the cheapest in the group, his favorite remains Terra Nitrogen (TNH) for its 6.4% dividend yield.

"I should've gotten out when they cut the dividend. I stuck with it too long. But I still think it's the best way to play fertilizer and I still like it. " "Mad Money Lightning Round," 6-16-09

They earn only 4.45 per share and yet they pay a dividend of $6.28 per share. They are borrowing money just to make their yield more attractive so investors will drive the stock price higher. I think that's bad business practice.

I also think it's unnecessary. If they want to pass all the earnings through to the shareholders, fine, GREAT, then just pay a dividend of $4.45 or close to it. I understand that the company's fundamentals are strong and that their earning may in fact continue to grow. Well then raise the dividend at that point, not before.

Fact is, the stock used to be relatively high yielding with a dividend yield of 9.5% when the stock was at $65 (as recently as April 2007 btw!), but with the exaggerated run-up since April to a whopping $131.56, the dividend yield is only 4.77%. There are 14 stocks in the S&P 500 index that pay a higher yield than that.

Stocks such as: Windstream (WIN) 6.67%, Washington Mutual (WM) 5.16%, Consolidated Edison (ED) 5.14%, and US Bancorp (USB) 4.78% that have a much longer track record than Terra Nitrogen, are less volatile, and won't collapse in share price when the momentum investors jump off the fertilizer bandwagon (TNH is up 500% during the past 52 weeks).

You wanna know what I think about E85? I think it's a sham. It's supposed to alleviated fuel prices, but it's driving up food prices. That's regressive if you ask me. Leave the ethanol for drinking and our farmland from growing FOOD thank you very much.

My uncle thinks it would be a good idea to short corn and go long soybeans.

A. any forward growth guidance you get from
a company has to be taken with a grain
of salt. dubai was not news 2 days ago,
yesterday it clipped the s n p for 20
points. these are turbulent times and
all forward statements are a guess. 5
year ones are a joke. we've had a really
nice upternd for the last 8 months, that
may be coming to and end or at the very
least its probably gonna get choppy.
you're gonna have to be the judge of the
reliability of any future estimates and
any one stock can have multiple guesses
at theirs.
