To me these companies are, in the end, doomed to the fate of Thornburg Mortgage (TMA) or IndyMac (IMB), a company I have a particular lack of fondness for having been attacked on its conference call last year for being too pessimistic about housing! Ha!

Investor Richard E. Rainwater reported acquiring warrants to buy almost 11 million TMA shares. The warrants were issued to Rainwater in connection with his purchase of senior notes and participation in some mortgage-related assets. The offering allowed Thornburg to raise about $1.35 billion in new capital and stave off bankruptcy. The warrants will allow Rainwater to buy almost 11 million shares for 1 cent a share. in January, Rainwater first disclosed owning 3,945,000 million of Thornburg preferred shares (13%), which he acquired through previous offerings and open-market transactions.
