Why I Love This Stock

By:barrons3

Date:11 27 09

We're seeing endless strong buying by people who are supposed to be on the verge of being taxed into oblivion. You don't get a move in Tiffany (TIF) or Nordstrom (JWN) like we have had when rich people are hunkering down.

The acceleration that we’re likely to see in the sales trends will likely be more dramatic on the high end. As a result I really like Tiffany (TIF). And if you’re looking for a stock to avoid, I’d avoid Aeropostale (ARO), adds Citi retail analyst Kimberly Greenberger.

Analysts have low expectations for Tiffany & Co, which reports earnings on November 25. That could bode well for the high-end jewelry maker if it's able to pull off good surprise numbers.

On Wednesday's "Stop Trading!" segment, Cramer said there was an "all-at-once retail thing going on," which saw companies such as Tiffany and Williams Sonoma (WSM) rising at the same time as companies such as Dollar Tree (DLTR) and Family Dollar (FDO). "Tell me if you really need anything at Williams Sonoma," he said. "That can't be going up if people are in a recession."

Cramer said we're seeing what he calls a "gasoline rally" in stocks such as Darden (DRI), Coach (COH), Tiffany (TIF), Sears (SHLD), Lowe's (LOW) and Yum! Brands (YUM).

"This is all the same trade that we saw when gasoline broke from $4 down to $2 last year," he said. "It's happening again." Read more here.

I think that Buffett's actions should be scrutinized just like anyone else's. I have been turned on to this view by my good friend Doug Kass, who has been on this case for months now. In fact, I have talked to the editors and we are starting a "Buffett Watch" to see what is happening with Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A) as it lurches from Johnson & Johnson and U.S. Bancorp to General Electric (GE) and Goldman Sachs (GS) and Tiffany(TIF) and Harley-Davidson(HOG).
