Why I Love This Stock

Stewart Enterprises Inc. said recently its board of directors approved a $25 million increase to the funeral company's stock buyback program.

The program is now up to $75 million, under which $29.1 million is still available. Stewart has already bought back about 6.3 million shares at an average price of $7.32 apiece.

The company has about 92.8 million common shares outstanding.

Louisiana-based Stewart Enterprises provides funeral and cemetery-related services in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Last month, the company delivered a 38% rise in first-quarter profit and a 5% increase in sales. Its after-tax margin climbed to 9.1%, the highest in seven quarters.
