He said that rather than trade individual stocks, "people want to trade ETFs." And when it comes to retail ETFs, he prefers PowerShares Dynamic Retail (PMR) to Retail HOLDRs (RTH).

There's "too much concentration in the RTH," and Best Buy (BBY) is "controlling" it, he said. The ETF is "not a good judge anymore."

"PMR is the better ETF to trade if you're negative on retail," Cramer said. "Cramer's 'Stop Trading!'" 6-16-09

With the change of seasons upon us, investors are taking a closer look at retail. Are consumers ready for a spring fling? They may be. In fact, the Retail HLDRS (RTH) is up for the quarter, explains Jon Najarian. Retail is a sector that’s positive.

You see the thesis developing. Mortgage rates are coming down, gasoline is plummeting in price, heating oil and natural gas prices are cascading, refinances are soaring. You put it all together, and you think to yourself, here comes the bottom in the Retail HOLDRs (RTH), here's the bottom in Macy's (M) and Kohl's (KSS) and Home Depot (HD) and Lowe's (LOW).

I know I hear about the big "tax cut" that comes from the lower gasoline prices. Yet, then I see the retail sales and they are so dismal that I know the Retail HOLDR (RTH) short-sellers are going to break the group.

I’m short the RTH [RTH] against some other exposure I have to companies that are big exporters to the US, says Tim Seymour.

And in general consumer confidence out this past Tuesday was a record low. Yet Macy’s [M], Kohl’s [KSS] and even the Retail HLDRs [RTH] all closed in the green.
