Why I Love This Stock

By:Stockpickr Staff

Date:07 01 09

"The defensives, the Pepsis (PEP) and General Mills (GIS), remain incrementally positive for the quarter, so I do not foresee a lot of profit-taking occurring." "The Post-Mark-Up Could Sting Industrials," 6-30-09

"What's amazing about this one is it has created a bizarre confluence that has simultaneously lifted the soft-goods stories -- General Mills (GIS) and Pepsi (PEP) (although not the drug stocks, which remain in massive purgatory) -- without depressing the red-hot industrials or techs." ("Flu Panic Led Shorts to Lean too Far," 4-30-09)

Of course, what isn't working you can buy a ton of: Abbott (ABT) and General Mills (GIS) and Pepsi (PEP) as usual are for sale, and I own enough of those for certain.

"It's terrific to see the moribund stocks rally, Pepsi (PEP), General Mills (GIS), Bristol-Myers (BMY) and the like, but we have to be realistic that without the flu epidemic, these would be doing their same old 'off 27 cents a day' dance that has disheartened so many and caused so many to sell." Buy - Price 49.86 on April 21
by Janney Capital Markets

Our 58 fair value is...derived from a sum-of-parts analysis based on modest premium multiples: Beverages, 10.5 times [enterprise value/earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization]; foods, 10 times; and international, 10 times. Pepsi's superb market shares, footprint, and execution track record deserve a premium valuation to its peers. Very large, high-margin, predictable categories underpin PEP's earnings trajectory and reduce volatility....Its massive direct-store-delivery system ...reduces costs for all retailers and gives Pepsi control of its product from manufacturing to purchase. PepsiCo announced its offer to acquire its two anchor bottlers (Pepsi Bottling and PepsiAmericas) for $6 billion (50% equity/50% cash). We view Pepsico's proposed purchase as a long-overdue solution to both the problem of increased volatility and complexity in the beverage business that started in the late 1990s with declines in per-capita consumption of carbonated soft drinks. We think...it will be accretive and will enhance PEP's competitive advantage. Market cap: $77.6 billion.

If economy continues the way it is---we won't be able to
afford Pepsi or Coke. All money going to gasoline & higher prices for everything!

Sideways stock that's not even sideways anymore. Totally boring play. There is a past and a future pepsi is the past. You can put your money in a CD and get the same type of growth. Grow up.
