The New York Stock Exchange -- meaning NYSE Euronext (NYX) -- at more than 6% is back to the level where there was plenty of talk about a merger with Deutsche Bourse, something that would be hugely positive. Meanwhile, volume's not awful and potential IPOs are stacked up like planes at O'Hare.

Or how about NYSE Euronext (NYX), which, to me, yielding 5%, with several month market-share gains, could be a fabulous way to play the fact that I simply do not believe there will never be an IPO again.

The contrarian in me wants to buy the new accidental high-yielders again, Caterpillar (CAT), Home Depot (HD), NYSE Euronext (NYX), as examples, but remember you can't buy all at once, and what worked last time will work again: staged buying on the way down.

With a recent SEC decision that will allow a partner of NYX to act as a counterparty to credit default swaps, things are looking good for the company – and it’s about time. According to Fitzpatrick, NYX “has been in freefall for quite a while.” If you’re into this stock, he advised going to the long side but keeping a tight stop in place.
