NetApp announced the rollout of Data OnTap 8, which substantially improves caching and clustering functions. Additionally, the company preannounced several forthcoming features related to data migration and management. Current customers can upgrade to the new version at no cost, therefore near-term revenue will not be impacted by this announcement. However, we believe this rollout and the new management functionalities the company plans to add ... will make NetApp more competitive in this space and potentially bring in new business down the road. Market cap: $7.4 billion.

In a July 28 post to his RealMoney blog, Cramer worte that SPSS' (SPSS) acquisition by IBM (IBM) reminds me of Data Domain (DDUP) and how Netapp is still out there, doing better than expected but too cheap to stay independent.

And on July 10, he said on his "Lightning Round" segment that NetApp "is a winner" and its "business is on fire." He also liked EMC (EMC).

We know the companies have war chests. Cisco (CSCO) has raised a lot of money, NetApp (NTAP) has raised money. EMC (EMC) has raised money. The last two are in a bidding war for Data Domain (DDUP) that seems to be incapable of producing a loser, as all of the stocks involved have been in the move.

NetApp's (NTAP) not going to go down without a fight, but the company's clearly trying to be a consolidator, so wouldn't it make sense for the company to buy someone else if it fails in its Data Domain quest?
