He also gave the nod to the fertilizer stocks of Potash (POT), Agrium (AG) and Mosaic (MOS). Cramer said that while Potash remains the cheapest in the group, his favorite remains Terra Nitrogen (TNH) for its 6.4% dividend yield.

Tim Seymour agrees with Terranova's thesis, but also points to the agricultural names which he sees as lagging the rally in commodities, such as Potash (POT) and Mosaic (MOS). Grain prices have rallied recently, and fertilizer prices will soon follow, he reasons.

We suggest investors remain on the sidelines, as we watch potash prices continue to trend lower. Takeover speculation has provided support for the stocks, making it more challenging to find an entry point. We remain concerned that global demand ... will remain depressed, given weak balance sheets (in some cases income statements, too) of farmers outside of the Americas. Mosaic reported [fiscal] 1Q EPS of 23 cents, below our estimate of 30 cents and First Call consensus of 35 cents. Included in reported results was a net benefit of 3 cents in gains on derivatives and [foreign exchange], resulting in operating earnings of closer to 20 cents. The year-ago comparison was $2.65, and the prior-quarter comparison was 12 cents. Market cap: $20.5 billion.
