In energy, Osterweis holds pipeline partnership Magellan Midstream Holdings (MGG), whose distribution growth of 8% to 10% annually should drive 20%-plus profit growth. Osterweis sees Magellan earning $1.40 a share this year, versus 98 cents last year.

A. They make a tender offer. They state
the price/share they're willing to pay
for the outstanding shares. If the
shareholders vote for the offer, then
your shares are purchased back. If
enough shareholders vote for the buyback
of shares, even someone that votes no
has no say so in the whole thing. The
majority has spoken so all the shares
will be purchased. DTC allocates the
funds to the current shareholders and
