Jack in the Box (JBX) upgraded to a buy from neutral at Merrill Lynch, price target reduced to $21 from $26. ML estimates exclude potential gains on asset sales. Analyst believes that despite macro headwinds, JBX guidance is achievable & discount multiple provides upside to shares.

A stock that does terribly if consumer spending sentiment is negative, trade this stock when sentiment changes

Consumer discretionary. The only ones of these that work have a Staple feel to them. MCD is good. JBX had a very nice quarter.

I should have bought this stock before they reported the great quarter. The stock was oversold, more than 30% off of its high. Jack in the Box has a shrinking outstanding share base because of its aggressive buyback. That is why they consistently beat EPS guidance. Also margins look to be back in line, recovering from last quarter’s profit margin contraction. Also, great franchise growth opportunities with Qdoba.
