We are maintaining our Hold rating on the common shares of Jet Blue. The company issued updated guidance for the second quarter to discuss the impact of the H1N1 flu on its business. Mexico represents less than 2% of the company's capacity, as it is [confined to] just one route, to Cancún, but the entire impact is having a disproportionate affect on the business. Some of the problem is that the H1N1 flu seems to be fairly widespread in New York [Jet Blue's home base] and, as a result, has impacted the company's business more than it has some other airlines' business. We are reducing our second-quarter and full-year earnings-per-share estimate to reflect the weaker-than-expected second-quarter revenues. We are estimating second-quarter EPS of two cents, down from our prior estimate of 10 cents and compared with a loss of three cents last year. Market cap: $1.3 billion.

The discount carrier store was among the most active names on the Nasdaq Monday.

We're concerned that current events in Russia and in the Middle East could put upward pressure on oil prices later this month. We are downgrading JetBlue common to Hold from Buy, as the shares have reached our $7.10 price target. Our target, [which had] varied between $6.30 and $7.10...was based on 10 times estimated 2009 EPS, which have also been between 63 cents and 71 cents. We expect JBLU to report fourth-quarter and full-year results later this month. We are estimating a fourth-quarter loss of nine cents per share, versus last year's loss of two cents a share, and the consensus of a loss of two cents a share. Market cap: $2 billion.

3. JetBlue (JBLU). I hate the airlines, but this one hasn't reduced rates and the fuel costs have collapsed. The case can be made.

Don't Count on Airlines to Stay Aloft:

Solid June RASM [revenue per available seat mile] suggests JBLU is outperforming peers. We recently upgraded shares of JBLU...based on our belief that JBLU's solid liquidity positioned it as a survivor among the airlines we cover. While we had initially been skeptical of JBLU's 2008 RASM guidance of 12%-14% year-over-year growth, the year-to-date trend suggests that the company is strongly outperforming peers and that our below-guidance RASM growth forecast may prove pessimistic. If the company achieves its RASM growth guidance for the full year, JBLU may end the year with an even better liquidity position than we currently model. ... [W]e think it too soon to buy JBLU shares. By many metrics, JBLU still looks expensive, and there is much that could go wrong with the macro environment in ways that are unhelpful to the stock. As such, we think it's too soon to take a long position in the shares, and we maintain our Equal-weight rating. Market cap: $646 million.

I suppose I am just foolish.
