"The SPY has much more liquidity, though academics would argue that the iShares products have a slightly better structure. The SPY, being the first ETF out there with a unit investment trust structure, it does not reinvest dividends on an interim basis. The Barclays product (IVV) came out later. It has a little bit more flexibility on rebalancing and also reinvesting dividends. If you are talking about 2% annual yield paid quarterly, if you reinvest dividends, you get a little bit more return on the upside and a little less on the downside.
