Altria Group, Inc. (MO) is finally breaking itself up into two businesses and Jim talked about how to play the break up. He doesn't see the play as on the break up but on Carolina Group (CG). Cigarette volumes are on the decline and this is a steady long term trend. This is good for our health but bad for tobacco stocks. Domestically menthol cigarettes are still growing though. Newport is taking market share with brand loyalty. Lorillard owns Newport and is wholly owned by CG. Production and promotion and ownership of the highest priced premium brand is only can make you money. Newport has a loyal, young customer base and they may have done abhorrent things to get those kids smoking but it is about making money. There is also room to expand as they are based mostly east of the Mississippi. Last is that a lawsuit that is set to end will cause CG to raise the dividend payout as much as $5 if Jim is right. The bottom line he gave us was "cigarettes may be disgusting, but CG has real growth, expansion opportunities and a great dividend catalyst coming."

Q: What other castles are you finding?

A: "Carolina Group is a tracking stock for the cigarette business of Loews [LTR]. People don't like tracking stocks, but here you have another example of managers who behave like owners: in this case, the Tisch Family."
