CA is acquiring NetQoS for $200 million in cash. The acquisition is in line with CA's stated strategy for spending $300 million to $500 million per year for acquisitions that build on the existing, key technology verticals....The acquisition represents 3.5 times trailing 2008 revenues of $56 million. NetQoS reported 26% revenue growth in 2008. Market cap: $12.1 billion.

CA Inc., an information technology software company, said its board has recently approved plans to buy back as much as $250 million of the company's stock.
The company had 518.3 million shares outstanding as of July, valued at $8.3 billion based on Wednesday's closing price of $15.91.

CA will fund the program with available cash on hand and may repurchase shares on the open market from time to time, based on market conditions and other factors.

The stocks with the highest risk, Pritchard says, are Citrix Systems (ticker: CTXS), an application-delivery software outfit, and Blade-Logic (BLOG), a maker of data-center software. And, owing to the financial-services industry's turmoil, Pritchard sees business-software makers Computer Associates (CA) and BMC Software (BMC) as somewhat vulnerable.

Goldman Sachs said it is upgrading CA (CA) to Buy from Neutral based on business momentum and potential for margin upside. Believe cash flow will catch up to robust net income growth in early 2008. Price target raised to $33 from $32.

CA Inc. recently announced a $500 million dollar buyback.
