Why I Love This Stock |

By:Pro |
Date:11 30 -1 |
Stock Wrap: The Real Story, June 30: Oil futures fell, and the major stock indices in New York shed up to 1% Tuesday. The end of the second quarter is here, with an unexpected drop in consumer confidence. |

When you see Gilead (GILD), Coca-Cola (KO), Abbott Laboratories (ABT) and Merck (MRK) down on this otherwise perfect day, you have to recognize that consistency is so out of favor as to make safety be the killer -- the true generator of underperformance. |

So many of these are bordering on their 52-week lows from the bad old days. Others can't get out of their way even when the fundamentals are good: Baxter (BAX), Abbott (ABT), Bristol Myers (BMY). |

Of course, what isn't working you can buy a ton of: Abbott (ABT) and General Mills (GIS) and Pepsi (PEP) as usual are for sale, and I own enough of those for certain. |

"We would have looked at Abbott Labs (ABT) and Procter & Gamble (PG) and just said that the big consumer product and drug stocks are so bad they might kill any rally. Instead, we cheer." ("So Much Strength," 4-22-09) |

Finally, Cramer gave a shout out to beaten down healthcare names like Abbott Labs (ABT) and also consumer stocks like Pepsi (PEP), both of which Cramer supports in Action Alerts Plus. All of these sectors are ripe for the picking anytime the market falls 5% or more, said Cramer. ("Mad Money Recap," April 20, 2009) |
