From an investment point of view, I don’t want to get into the policy issues surrounding the State of the Union Speech, as Id rather focus on peoples looks. Yup, you heard it right, their looks. For the first time, I watched the speech last night in High Definition, and several times throughout, I gasped. Most of our nation’s leaders are not the best looking in 1080i. Many of them looked downright scary. This got me thinking: if the 2008 Presidential election debates took place today, someone could well lose on account of not looking good in HD.

Obviously at the moment the penetration rate of HDTVs is not large enough for this to matter (if it did, Im sure our nation’s leaders would have adapted by now). This leads me to believe that the HD revolution, spearheaded by TV and followed by DVD and IPTV, is only in its early stages. So how does one profit from this?

To get things started, I threw together a portfolio of HD related stocks off the top of my head. I don’t know which stocks are right for the investing now, and understand that for the bigger companies HD is only one part of the overall profit picture. Nonetheless, I think its valuable to get a discussion going, so please leave me comments in the portfolio page.
