I like the contrary AHM pick! Also check out TMA (Thornburg Mtg) high class mortgage
portfolio is tainted by sub-prime collapse....might be a good time to look for value in
the space.

I was recently in Calgary and kept hearing that real estate in that area is out of
control. There has been an influx of workers to work in the Tar Sands region. Money is
flowing and speculation/flipping is moving through these regions. I wonder if the extra
tax is designed to take advantage and slow this staggering and unsustainable growth.

very little liklihood of canadian parliament actually enacting proposed taxes on oil and
gas trusts, conservatives make up 124 of 308 seats and their base is in the west where
the trusts are also based, their constituency is extremely upset, the bloc (Quebecois)
has already defected and there will be hearings in the finance committee of the house of
commons coming up to examine the efficacy of these tax proposals. studies have shown that
the trusts actually pay 40% more to the three levels of government per dollar of revenue
than conventional companies
