Lessons From the Great Depression

translated from over 2500 years ago. It is amazing how brilliant a human can be...yet so
ignorant at the same time. We can send people to the moon, build extensive electrical
networks, great national and global transportation networks. But when it comes down to
individualist and societal leadership, we can be total failures.

Chris, I love that one as well...but these are my current favorites. The man and book are
pure genius.
"Success requires NO apologies.
Failure permits NO alibis."

Other one but it So clique but so true, "A QUITTER NEVER wins...a WINNER NEVER quits."

Sun Tzu "art of war"...

"there is no instance of a country have benefited from prolonged warfare. With this a loss
of substance and exhaustion of strength, the homes of the people will be stripped bare,
and three-tenths of their incomes will be dissipated; while Government expenses for war
materials (broken chariots, worn-out horses, shields, spears. Factor in the cost for bombs,
tanks, stealth bombers, etc...for inflation) will amount to four-tenths of its total
revenue. In war, then let your great object be victory, not lengthy campaigns."

(cont. "Waging War")"Thus it may be known that the leader of armies is the arbiter of the
people's fate, the man on whom it depends whether the nation shall be in peace or in
peril."

i think im still gonna stick with letting large banks fail creates too much panic among
the uninformed and hurts the people who dont need to be hurt.

good thing we have prudent lawmakers on the job and not ideologues, right?

used to be one by w. clement stone for the love of god i can't remember, with the
exception of one of his quotes," what the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can
achieve"... that couldn't be more true now than when written.chris

The book is only my table by my bed...I read it every night before I go to bed...maybe it
is because I am young, naive and poor.

When a man spends 25+ years of his life devoted to a topic...I find it good to listen.
(Cramer) Other favorite is Tsung Tsu "Art of War". From this book, I have a few other
quotes that pertain our haphazard government. I will share later when I get home.

I concur, it is amazing how much things stay the same. People fear change and invertedly
fail in the process. But they love the concept of talking about it.

my god i cant believe you mentioned that book, i read that book when i was 17, and this is
the first time in my life, at age 52, that i ever heard that title uttered from anyone.
geez..chris

Stock Junkie, I read Napolean Hill's Think and Grow Rich when I was young and poor and I
liked it. A couple weeks ago, now that I'm old and poor, I picked up another copy.
Hmmmm...Maybe if I started thinking?.... Good points about polititians and banking.
History DOES repeat itself!

The only thing that stays the same is change... I don't believe this applies when we don't
learn from our mistakes. Our government is run by idiots and laggards that move at snails
pace to implement changes that are necessary our future generation prosperity. Sometimes
it takes a crisis for people to implement change. But luckily we live in the greatest
Nation in the history of the world, which is so great that even an Idiot(s) can run it.

In one of my favorite books "Think and Grow Rich", the author makes references to the
Great Depression...I thought I would share.

Under a Call for new Leadership Chapter 6, he states:

New Leadership will be required:

First: In the field of politics there is a most insistent damand for new leaders- a demand
which indicates nothing less than an emergency. The majority of politicians have seemingly
become high-grade, legalized racketeers. They have increased taxes and debauched the
machinery of industry and business until the people can no longer stand the burden.

Second: The banking business is undergoing a reform. The leaders in this field have almost
entirely lost the confidence of the public.

Do you mean the same administration that wasn't even AWARE of $4 / gallon gas?
