Great to see a couple more people weighing in!
I was at Junior's in Brooklyn just today, and it was awful. It's raised its prices and all
the food and drinks were off (buffalo wing sauce was burned, and the "margarita" was
unreocgnizable as such). I think it's losing its casual charm as Brooklyn gets to be
"hotter."
For "out of the way" I love Alma and the River Cafe, both in Brooklyn, both with nice
views of the Manhattan skyline. Also not too far into Brooklyn, try Jolie on Atlantic Ave.
or Little D in Park Slope for brunch.
Then, there's Dinosaur Cafe at 125th in Manh., which I first came to love in Syracuse.
Amazing BBQ.
Don't forget the Russian places in Brighton Beach, such as Tatiana, which even comes with
the cheesy show. And Greek food in Astoria, Queens, like Agnanti and Taverna Kyclades.

Ok, lets at least get the breakfast places out of the way:
- Penelope (30th and Lex)
- Sarges (36th and 3rd)
- Clinton St Bakery (and its sister on the UWS, i forget the name)
- Sarabeths (92nd and Madison)
- the W Hotel in Times Sq
- Juniors in Brooklyn
- The Diamond Dairy (47th and 5th. Hard to find)
- The Little Mexican Place (Murray and W. Broadway)
all of the above are unbelievably good.

Thanks to both James and Joanna for the interesting restaurant picks. We do look for
recommendations as we head out of "kid mode" (e.g., Mars 2112 and Jekyll and Hyde)and get
back to looking for places that serve good food. Even better if it's off the beaten track.
We had a nice lunch at Rachel's on 9th Ave between 43 and 44th. Very pretty area (if I am
remembering correctly), nice little bistro, affordable. La Bonne Soupe is a cute little
place where we had mixed results- some items were great and others just so, so but again
cozy atmosphere (W. 55th, between 5th and 6th)and quite affordable. But these may be
pretty ho hum for you natives...
Now if we can ever afford to go into NYC again, we will check out some of your
recommendations!

no offense, but I guess you're soliciting questions from the wrong crowd, James.
Apparently not many frequent NYC restaurants.
