Description:

Trying to make some money with these picks to supplement my regular salary (or lack of one).

Generally followed Cramer's strategy of buying stocks with good fundies and average down. These stocks will be held generally for 12 months or more.

NYX: first purchase in late 2006 (close to the high of 110) and kept purchasing from time to time. Last purchase in mid 2007 was at 77.

UNP: purchased in early 2007. Made about 18% in 5 months. Sold all to buy more NYX at the low.

SKS: purchased in Jan 2007. Made about 6%, by May. Sold to buy more NYX.

LVLT: spec play for bandwidth shortage. First purchase early 2007. Averaged down. Cost basis around 5.8.

RAD: another spec play, turnaround. First purchase early 2007. Haven't been able to average down (usually because no cash available when RAD is knocked down).

RS: bought in the mid 07. This one is my value play, as it should be valued probably around $100 in the coming 1-2 years. This is with a growth of 19% per year and PE of 13. Current 07 price is cheap especially after Q2 numbers knocked the stock down.

Another strategy I will implement is to trade around these positions. Cramer mentioned this idea with an example where he will sell 15% of a 30k portfolio when it goes up 3% and then rebuy when it drops back down to initial cost basis. This results in a $150 profit-taking out of the $900 (15%x30k). Since the amount of money I employ is much smaller in the 5-6k range, I would trade around the core (sell 15% of the portfolio) when there's an increase of ~15-20%. This unfortunately won't happen very often. It's also possible to trade 30% of the portfolio with an 8% increase (it's riskier since more the stock could go up more, but let's just worry about the downside for now, the upside takes care of itself).
