Stocks Eva Longoria Should Love - 3213 views

Jerry Seinfeld is out and Eva Longoria is in as celebrity endorser for Microsoft (MSFT) on its new series of television commercials, which are trying to take on Apple (AAPL). Longoria, the Golden Globe-nominated star of Desperate Housewives, ranked No. 14 on FHM's list of 2008's sexiest women.

Last year, Fred Fuld at Stockerblog.com developed the Eva Longoria Stock Index, which has been implemented at Stockpickr.com.

The best-performing stock in the Eva Longoria Index is New York & Company (NWY), which more than doubled from January to August of this year. This retailer of women's apparel reported that for its latest quarter, earnings were up 150.8% on 3.8% quarterly revenue growth. The stock has a P/E of 93 and a PEG of 1.2.

New York & Company shows up in an interesting Stockpickr portfolio called Orland Square Mall, which lists the various retailers operating at the Orland Square Mall in Orland Park, the largest, most-upscale shopping center in Chicago's south suburbs. Other stocks in the portfolio include Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF), with a P/E of 8; Gap (GPS), with a P/E of 14; and Zale (ZLC), with a P/E of 98.

Another stock connected to Longoria is Pepsi (PEP). She appeared in a Super Bowl commercial for Diet Pepsi with rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs and supermodel Cindy Crawford. The head of Pepsi, Indra Nooyi, was recently named by Forbes magazine as the third-most-powerful woman in the world. The stock has a P/E of 20, a PEG of 1.7 and a yield of 2.4%.

Speaking of powerful women, Pepsi appears in the Stockpickr portfolio called World's Most Powerful Women and Their Stocks, which lists the top powerful women listed in Forbes that are connected with publicly traded companies. Other stocks in the portfolio include WellPoint (WLP), headed by Angela Braly, with a P/E of 9, and Anglo American (AAUK), with Cynthia Carroll as CEO and with a P/E of 7.

Longoria starred in The Young and the Restless, a soap opera produced by Sony Pictures Television, which is a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Entertainment, a division of Sony (SNE). The company just added a program to the PlayStation 3 game system that provides news, weather and Web cam views from around the world. The stock has a P/E of 11, a PEG of 19 and a yield of 0.6%

Sony is owned by the Dodge & Cox Stock Fund, which has a Morningstar rating of four stars and is managed by Harry Hagey. The fund has had an average annual return of 17.73% over the last five years. It also owns Cardinal Health (CAH), with a P/E of 14; Wachovia (WB), with a forward P/E of 9; and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), with a P/E of 14.
