Basically, I'm a young investor who is finally starting to dabble in the market. I'm a student of economics and have always been fascinated by stocks and the market, so I've followed the market and some of these companies for some time now. I only make trades a few times per month, so I tend to prefer stocks that I can hold onto for some time. I'm pretty confident in most of my picks, but this is my first ever portfolio, so suggestions and comments are always appreciated.

  • AAPL
    Apple Inc
  • $183.45
  • -0.87%
  • $183.18

I believe that this stock will continue to rise due to high margins, the success of iPhone (and its lucrative AT&T contract), the continued strength of the iPod, and ever-increasing Mac sales. AAPL is a great company with excellent products and a very loyal and expanding customer-base.

  • AIG
    Amer Intl Group I
  • $40.28
  • -8.77%
  • $41.89

I've always liked AIG, and still do, despite its recent weakness. AIG is, in my opinion, a corporate juggernaut that continues to show decent growth despite its massive size.

  • BARE
    Bare Escentuals
  • $21.03
  • +0.77%
  • $20.81

This is one of my growth-stock picks. The company has amazing products (from what I've heard) and while it might be somewhat expensive now, it trades at only 23x next year's expected earnings, despite predicted growth within the range of 25 to 30% over the next 5 years. It shows impressive sales growth and has beaten earnings estimates since it went public.

  • C
    Citigroup Inc
  • $23.63
  • -2.76%
  • $24.41

Not sure about this one anymore. Luckily, Citi is by far my smallest holding so I haven't been hurt badly by its declines. This is a stock that I may be selling soon on any signs of strength.

  • CELG
    Celgene Cp
  • $62.49
  • +0.03%
  • $61.00

I tend to like growth stocks, so Celgene was an obvious pick when I decided that I wanted to own something related to bio-tech or pharmaceuticals.

  • COH
    Coach Inc
  • $34.19
  • -0.26%
  • $34.22

I love that Coach has consistently beaten earnings estimates over at least 10 quarters. Everyone I know who has bought something from Coach has gone on to basically become addicted to their products. Earnings and growth have been strong, so COH seemed like a good play within the luxury consumer goods market.

  • COP
    Conocophillips
  • $88.71
  • -0.83%
  • $89.50

I wanted to own a major integrated oil stock, and chose COP.

  • DVR
    Cal Dive Intl Inc
  • $14.00
  • -0.36%
  • $14.36

I like this stock. I think it's a good play on oil, especially going into hurricane season. It's relatively cheap and has exhibited good earnings and strong growth, which I like.
