I use any approach that makes sense to me. I try to come up with investment ideas from all different angles.

These tend to be small comapnies and tend to move independent of the market.

crowded short position. Offers products and services to purify water as well as other liquids and air. Recently passed favorable antidumping legislation as well as a court settlment. A good amount of overseas (china) exposure (currency translation benefits). I believe this is the front end of a huge run.

They are the only pure play on light control windows. They have been licensing out their technology to big players. I believe this will become a standard in new construction and will be put in airplanes and luxury vehicles. It has the potential to lower cooling bills. Cons - their are competing technologies

US' water infrastructure is very very old and leaky( something like 25% leakage) these guys can fix it on the cheap and do a good job. Saves water. This one could take 3 years or so to play out.

OTC derivatives interdealer/broker. They are like a sleeper exchange. There is something liek over 100trillion in CDSs out there. They handle alot of the off exchange hedges for large insts. They have carbon credit desks in europe, this could be a large growth area in future. I think they could be bought out by an exchange or large broker. Cons- There have been recent headlines about subprime derivative obligations not being met by some large banks. This could hurt this part of GFIG's business.

A. Type II Diabetes in obese patients is
wrecking our health care system.
Overall, more than $1 in every $10 spent
on health care in the United States goes
toward treating Diabetes. Blood glucose
test strips alone can cost about a
dollar each and if you're testing
several times a day every day, the costs
can add up pretty quickly. XOMA has the
first drug "XOMA 052" in the last 10yrs
which will significantly impact this
industry and you would no longer require
daily insulin injections or insulin at
all, for that matter. This would save
the government billions, search on that
one and you'll make a fortune. The
government cannot continue to pay these
kinds of rising diabetes costs, when
there is an alternative which is so safe
and so effective which just became
patented in Europe.
