I use any approach that makes sense to me. I try to come up with investment ideas from all different angles.
These tend to be small comapnies and tend to move independent of the market.

-
CCC
Calgon Carbon Cp - $16.55
- -8.92%
- $17.73
crowded short position. Offers products and services to purify water as well as other liquids and air. Recently passed favorable antidumping legislation as well as a court settlment. A good amount of overseas (china) exposure (currency translation benefits). I believe this is the front end of a huge run.

-
REFR
Research Frontier - $3.96
- +1.54%
- $3.88
They are the only pure play on light control windows. They have been licensing out their technology to big players. I believe this will become a standard in new construction and will be put in airplanes and luxury vehicles. It has the potential to lower cooling bills. Cons - their are competing technologies

This firm has a service that can cut corporate healthcare costs significantly. Insider buys, insts buying. There will be a lot of talk about healthcare due to the 2008 election and Micheal Moore movie.

-
CPHD
Cepheid Inc - $10.93
- -7.29%
- $11.51
test kits for biological agent. Looks like a break out

-
INSU
Insituform Tech A - $9.81
- -10.90%
- $10.89
US' water infrastructure is very very old and leaky( something like 25% leakage) these guys can fix it on the cheap and do a good job. Saves water. This one could take 3 years or so to play out.

-
GFIG
Gfi Group Inc - $3.54
- -6.10%
- $3.67
OTC derivatives interdealer/broker. They are like a sleeper exchange. There is something liek over 100trillion in CDSs out there. They handle alot of the off exchange hedges for large insts. They have carbon credit desks in europe, this could be a large growth area in future. I think they could be bought out by an exchange or large broker. Cons- There have been recent headlines about subprime derivative obligations not being met by some large banks. This could hurt this part of GFIG's business.

-
ADES
Ada-es Inc - $5.98
- -0.33%
- $6.04
they have additives to burn coal cleaner. Very small company but if their products are good it could be huge.

-
AUTNF.PK
Autonomy Corp Plc - $15.15
- +12.64%
