I found out about Zix corp. from my sister who had seen a zix security while logging into her brokers site. This company provides email encryption and e-prescribing services to the health care industry, insurance companies, and financial companies, and government agencies From their 6/30/07 Sec. 10Q and Zix website I found most of the following: Zix Corp. provides services that protect, manage and deliver sensitive electronic information and provide electronic prescribing through their main products, Email Encryption and E-prescribing services. E-prescribing intrigued me the most because it brought up the comparable reality of the computer replacing the typewriter in every home (maybe almost every home?) and all of its glory of ease and lightening speed it facilitates and conveniences for government, businesses, and households of which neither can not do without. It is a service that provides handheld electronic prescribing devices (“Pocket Script” with computer access as well) for doctors. This device’s software includes a drug reference guide, patient eligibility, formulary, co-pay information for cost determinations, drug-to-drug and drug-to allergy interaction alerts and patient drug history. Although Richard Spurr, new CEO and chairman, said in the last conference call that the present devices will not be continued from the supplier, they felt the would be able to rectify this situation, and were working on it. And very importantly and profitably is the electronic delivery of the prescription to the pharmacy, cutting down on time and illegible writing, and inaccuracies. The MONEY -all prepaid email and eprescribing subscriptions -annual service fees paid by insurance companies and increasingly, doctors -and various types of transaction fees on prescriptions (milllions!!). Source Zix website: E-prescribing contracts with Aeta NY, NJ, Conn; Bluecross/Blueshield in Ill., Lo., and N.C.; L.A. Care Health Plan, and eRx Collaborative (Blue Cross/Blueshield of Mass., Tufts Health Plan and Neighborhood Health Plan). Zix’s E-prescribing model includes subscription contracts with these “payor/sponors” insurance companies who also initially pay for training the doctors, and the devices. Email Encryption contracts with Insurance companies: Wellpoint, Cigna, Humana, and 29 Blues organizations -Over 900 hospitals -Over 400 banks and other financial cos. -Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FREC) members: FDIC Office of the Comptroller of the Currency Office Thrift Supervision National Credit Union Admin. 10 state banking regulatory agencies as customers Their Competition is considered to be Allscripts (MDRX). They concentrate I believe only on the on the medical market and a different clientele. I think Zix has got alot going for it in terms of management, products, markets and profitability.
