Yucaipa Cos. is a holding company founded in 1986 by Ronald Burkle and based in Los Angeles that invests in supermarket and grocery chains.
Ron Burkle is a billionaire investor known for his expertise in the area of supermarkets. He masterminded leveraged buyouts of Jurgensen's, Fred Meyer, Food 4 Less, and Ralphs supermarket chains (purchased through Yucaipa) and sold to Kroger for $13.5 billion.
Former US President Bill Clinton, a close friend of Burkle's, is an advisor to the company.

Source Interlink Cos., a magazine, CD and DVD distributor to leading grocery and book store chains, said May 14, 2007 it agreed to buy Primedia Inc.'s magazine unit, Enthusiast Media, the publisher of Hot Rod, Motor Trend and other special interest publications for $1.2 billion in cash. Source Interlink is controlled though Ron Burkle's investment firm Yucaipa Cos.
