VA Partners is a $1.5 billion hedge fund run by Jeffrey Ubben, who used to work at Blum Capital. As their name implies they take a deep value stance and often are activists. They may even attempt to buy a firm, as they did with Acxion. The firm, known for its activist slant, buys large stakes in undervalued companies and works with their management to increase performance. The firm was founded in 2000 and manages some $1.5 billion for institutions and wealthy individuals.
