I like KO for all the world-wide obvious reasons. I think it's a nice conservative investment for possible rainy days ahead. As with BUD, there is concern that people will continue drinking less beer and soda water, but I am speculating that these trends will be offset by the companies' internationalism. (Using throw-away money, I purchased a start-up bottled water company last year. The company will probably soon be bankrupt, but their story is an interesting one. I met one of the company founders and spent untold hours researching this outfit. Conclusion: don't trust anything they say. On the other hand, if a person is unusually lucky, it is possible to make some fast change. RSPG PK

Another solid dividend-producing company. Company is divided into 5 groups: Rail, rail car leasing/management, inland barge (for hauling coal, for instance), energy equipment, construction. It seems these types of services would be needed, no matter the current financial situation of the country/world.

This is a recent IPO that provides deep water rig, pipe, diving etc. services on the continental shelf of the gulf. Company headquartered in Louisiana. The continental shelf of the gulf reportedly has vast resources. The government is permitting drilling in this area. Not much gulf close-in drilling activity in gulf after recent hurricanes proved their vulnerability. Many of those rigs were move out of the gulf to safer sites world-wide. But the deep water is supposedly now the focus. From the company: "Our goal is to enhance our strong market position on the outer continental shelf of the Gulf of Mexico and to pursue deepwater and international growth opportunities."
