Date updated:08-07-2007
The goal of this portfolio is not necessarily to find the best stocks for the next century but rather ones that can either snapback this week because of an irrational selloff last week, or they have someo ther potential catalyst that can create explosive potential during the coming week

CSCO
Cisco Systems - $23.46
- -0.93%
- $23.49
Next up is CSCO which reports earnings August 7th. CSCO has been really the face of this rally for the past 4,000 points. Can you image that CSCO was totally hated and trading around $18 a share this time LAST year? What makes CSCO an interesting play here is that they just announced a massive $5BB buyback with their stock at a 52-week high; what a vote of confidence! CSCO also bought a 2% stake in the VMware IPO making CSCO an attractive longer term investment; when I asked Cramer about CSCO’s 2% stake in VMware he said that he “has not seen anything like that in years”. Weekly Catalyst: With demand for network routers at an all time high CSCO is an earnings trade. They just announced a massive $5BB buyback near its 52-week high and took a 2% stake in the VMware IPO. It was also called a “Growth” stock by Goldman Sachs as it trades at 16x earnings and has 14% growth.

RL
Ralph Lauren Polo - $78.57
- -0.18%
- $78.39
Polo Ralph Lauren (RL), which reports earnings August 8th, could be a rocket stock this up-coming week. RL is a play on the high end consumer and the fact that RL is transforming its business model from being a niche based clothing company to a worldwide fashion empire that includes home goods is a nice trend. The first reason we noticed RL is because it is off 10% from its highs on July 6th. RL is also a play on the Coach earnings and the fact that the high end consumer has never left (despite what the bears say). Coach reported a great numbers and a nice outlook but shares were down in the choppy market last week. Unlike Target or Wal-Mart, the price of gas does not affect RL consumers to the extent that it affects Targets and Wal-Marts costumers per se. Weekly Catalyst: Look for a beat on the earnings front, driven by a new product line as well as increased demand in their spring and summer appeal lines (both men’s and women’s). Also, we are looking for them to increase guidance.

JSDA
Jones Soda Co. - $0.72
- -4.00%
- $0.748
Next up is Jones Soda. The stock got killed in After Hours trading on Thursday after they missed Wall Street’s second quarter numbers. Shares of JSDA were down as much as 25% in AH trading to $11.50 a share, sending this popular stock down near its 52-week low. JSDA is a pure snapback play going into this week. With just over a 300MM market cap, JSDA could easily be bought out by KO or PEP. Since JSDA is such a popular name, look for investors to average down on their positions.

-
AKAM
Akamai Technologi - $23.94
- -1.28%
- $24.07
Next up is AKAM which reported just a horrible earnings report two weeks ago. Right now the market feels as if AKAM is going to spend its way to bankruptcy and it certainly is very possible they do that (that is why we are seeing FFIV rally on the bad AKAM numbers). But AKAM has seen solid insider buying the past two months, with the Executive Chairman of the Board, George Conrades, buying stock in the mid 40s. They know much more than you or I would ever know about the innermost workings of AKAM and the future of their business in the overall internet sector. So with AKAM trading down as much as $15 a share from recent levels, it seems to have some support here.

DYN
Dynegy Inc Cl A N - $1.90
- -1.04%
- $1.95
Dynegy (DYN) is down 20% from its highest and got hit hard on Friday, as the market took it down 4.56%. With earnings coming out August 9 th DYN now offers a good risk/reward for our readers for a few reasons. Dynegy engages in the production and sale of electric energy, capacity, and ancillary services in the United States. It generates electricity by burning coal, natural gas, or oil. DYN has traded with natural gas for sometime now. If there is a warm summer and a lot of power plant usage DYN will crush numbers (here it New York it has been brutally hot for the past money). On June 21st Jim Cramer said that DYN "Is an amazing moment to buy a stock that was knocked down slowly for technical reasons involving a botched underwriting. I would pull the trigger right here"

NVDA
Nvidia Corporatio - $12.90
- -0.62%
- $12.70
Next up is NVDA; NVDA has been rumored for a while now to be a takeover target for INTC, while most people know that they do not really know what NVDA so let me quickly describe its business model and we its so attractive. The company creates various products for computing, consumer electronics, and mobile devices. It offers its products under four groups: graphics processing. Basically what the means is that they make high end graphics and video cards for computers. And while the takeover rumors have died down some what NVDA reports earnings on August 9 th. With computer games and high end machines being very popular now, look for NVDA is beat earnings.

-
ZOLT
Zoltek Companies - $9.46
- +1.07%
- $9.29
Zoltek (ZOLT) is a very interesting company. ZOLT develops carbon fibers; its carbon fibers are used as the primary building material in commercial products. The company also manufactures and sells filament winding equipment used in the production of composite parts. ZOLT which reports earnings on August 9th has beaten earnings estimates 3 quarters in a row now. With the carbon fiber business on fire and a massive short position of 26% ZOLT is posed to move higher. While, the stock has had a massive move the shorts are pressing their bets and will be forced to cover. ZOLT is also in our "Top Carbon Stocks" port.

TLCV
