If Lampert had to pick one distressed retail stock to acquire for Sears, what should it be?

GPS
Gap Inc - $22.70

"GAP." madeleine urges,"for in-store groove (yeah, gap is going to rocket - they have designers from good ol' Mr. Armani and the fashion is shooting out of the store and the dull dulls are not moving), retail leases, cool. Sears needs and requires a catalyst to move its retail - it's tired and yukky. Sd feels, "I agree with Madeleine, GPS would have to be it. Totally mis-managed store-chain. They need to shut down some of the Old Navy stores, and try to get more out of their Banana Republic stores. I think Eddie Lampert would be the perfect person to turn around GPS"

"How about Circuit City?" Dollar22 adds, "They own a large portion of their properties and have terrible branding and merchandising strategies (think about the K-mart transaction)"

BJ

Richard Allen briefly adds his opinion, "How about BJ's?"

Chris Lafakis would pick Federated. "I mean, can it get any worse for FD? Lampert would be able to buy this franchise at the cheap. I don't think Lampert's next move is retail, however." He continues, "I'll contend that he needs to fix sears before we can start talking about what he acquires."
