Pzena Investment Management is an $8.5 billion classic value investment manager.
"We use a disciplined, research-driven process to invest in deeply undervalued stocks. To assess the viability of each investment, we are focused on one overriding question: are the problems that currently cause a stock to be cheap temporary or permanent? Because of the natural tendency of investors to overreact to present conditions, bad news today is often projected indefinitely into the future regardless of a company's sustainable fundamental strength. We seek to benefit from such overreactions.
Our investment team screens stocks that are in the most undervalued or "deep" value portion of their universe based on normal earnings. Normal earnings provide a more accurate measure for evaluating a company's performance by smoothing out extreme high and low periods. Companies considered for investment must have a competitive advantage such as a superior distribution network, low cost structure, or simply, tangible assets. These advantages ultimately serve to help protect the investment."
