Paul Wick is the manager of the Seligman Communications and Information Fund (SPCIX). One of the very few tech-fund managers who lives here in the Valley, Wick is a smart investor who enjoyed the boom, survived the bust and is having a fine time in this year's upturn. He says his fund is getting net inflows for the first time in years, and he's launched a companion hedge fund, with about $1.7 billion in assets.

Make sure to check the hate list for Wick's short ideas.

His biggest position is Synopsys (SNPS), maker of electronic-design-automation software; he notes that it recently signed its biggest deal ever, a five-year, $500 million pact with Intel. Synopsys has 90% recurring revenue. As a result, he contends, it's unlikely ever to blow up.
