The Last Day is here. These are the rest of the companies that presented in the Main Rooms on 1/10/08 at the JPMorgan Healthcare Conf in San Fran. I of course rated them by whether they are sexy or not sexy. Little more Zombies Today (a biotech Zombie is a company that is dead, but they don't know it yet). Enjoy.
This was fun. Such a Street Junkie..I use to be so innocent.

Not sexy yet..but could become sexy if it could get a date. This is a biotech that has two drugs...PDX just announced on 1/7 Patient enrollment in Phase 2B is starting..they have 65 Smokers with advanced non-small lung cancer..they are looking for 100 that they should have by 2nd qtr..the life expect. is about a year..some making it to 2 years. PDX was granted orphan status and fast track so in theory it could be approved by 2009. Tarceva is competition..but Doctors love to cocktail...so this may be a cocktail.Their other drug RH1 going to phase 1...these are small molecule cancer treatment. Market Cap 480.75. They don't seem to have a big pharma partner yet..maybe in San Fran they can get a date?

OMPI
Obagi Medical Pro - $10.76

Darn Sexy. This is a unloved Long Beach Skincare Company. They help doctors with pre-mature aging. 400.96M, 37.60% qtr growth yoy,p/e 29.62, PEG .77 Surprise big time in the last four qtrs. (double diget %)..so UPOD...compare chart w/AGN. This company off it's highs is just sexy.

MNT
5.02 - $15.94

- $15.94
Not Sexy at All...and this is a Arms Dealer too. Medical Supplies to Plastic Surgeons, Breast Implants, Dermal Fill,Lipo...They see weakness in procedure volume driven by a slower economy and competitor price cutting. They are trying to get the stock up with buy backs and a divident in December. 1.24B Market Cap, 27.60% qtr growth, p/e 22.94, PEG 1.27..next qtr est growth -7.7%.

NSTR

Totally Sexy in a ALL or Nothing way. This is a Medical Eqip that sort of "stimulates" the arms and legs for stroke patients. 206M, only has one good qtr. BUT EVEREST studies will be release ANY DAY now in January. NSTR will be releasing it's final blind trial study. This from their website..it looks like it will go through..STOCK is at 52 Week low..if results good..it will pop. From their website..Northstar Neuroscience has completed two feasibility clinical studies (ADAMS and BAKER) that included 32 stroke survivors with hand and/or arm disability resulting from their stroke (known as upper extremity hemiparesis). The results of these two studies suggest that cortical stimulation when combined with rehabilitation, may improve a patient’s hand/arm motor recovery more effectively than rehabilitation therapy alone. Half of the patients were in the "control group," meaning they received rehabilitative physical therapy only without cortical stimulation. The other half of the patients were in the "treatment group," meaning they received the same rehabilitative physical therapy as the control patients and also received cortical stimulation treatment at the same time. Patients in both groups benefited from participation in the study. However, those patients receiving cortical stimulation in addition to rehabilitative physical therapy on average benefited significantly more than those receiving physical therapy alone. Benefit was demonstrated in the patients' scores on standardized tests of hand and arm function and in patients' ability to better accomplish activities of daily living. The amount of improvement varied from individual to individual but on average patients who received the implanted cortical stimulation system improved 15-30%. Control group patients improved 0-12%. Based on the results of the ADAMS and BAKER studies, a larger FDA approved clinical research study, named EVEREST, has recently completed enrollment at 21 centers nationwide. It is designed to investigate the safety and effectiveness of the Renova™-ST Cortical Stimulation System* in the recovery of hand and arm disability after stroke.

TELK
Telik - $0.78

- $0.7778
ZOMBIE. Biotech that failed their Phase III of Teleyta in July. Market Cap 171.47M. BUT THIS PART IS SO FUNNY...do you know what this company just did...filed a 8k showing bonuses and saleries for their officers..AND ICAHN and his company owns over 5M shares...as it sinks into the ground. Carl can make mistakes too..but I could be wrong.

-
NHWK
Nighthawk Radiolo - $5.22
- -1.14%
- $5.27
Not Sexy..You have to look through the company. This is Outsourcing to India your x-rays play. They also have 4 other divisions. They have really good numbers but missed their qtr.s a couple of times. It appears the numbers came from M & A and not organic growth. Gossip has it that more companies are starting to provide this online biz...to create competition..and cut patient numbers.Market cap 574.16M, qtr growth 79.50%, P/e 42.27, PEG .88. KEEP an eye on next year when Medi-care will start paying for their Cardiac Imaging.

NUVO
N/a - $0.30

I say probably a Zombie..but maybe it may live. Biotech..Alf or Alfimeprase is their hail mary pass. It dissolves blood clots. They have FDA fast track status and started dosing their first patient in a Phase 2 study. The Question is Money. Market Cap 92.09M, on 12/21 they requested a 60M Shelf Registration to raise cash. The Stock is just going down, down, down. This is what Adam from THE STREET said about it in Dec..Nuvelo is a heartbreaker of a stock. The company was zipping through 2006 until December, when it just imploded. Two phase III studies of its clot-busting drug alfimeprase came up negative. It was a shocker. The stock collapsed, and Nuvelo lost its partnership with German drug firm Bayer. Fortunately, Nuvelo had cash in the bank. The company has now restructured costs and is working again, on its own, to get alfimeprase approved as a drug to unclog intravenous catheters and as a treatment for ischemic stroke. Nuvelo also has a couple of early-stage drugs in its pipeline. At its closing price of $2.12 on Friday, Nuvelo is trading just slightly higher than its cash-per-share level of around $2, so in essence, the market isn't placing much value on alfimeprase or on the rest of the pipeline. I like Nuvelo and hope it can recover from the disastrous events of a year ago. Expect data from the new alfimeprase study in catheter occlusion -- dubbed Sonoma-3 -- in the first half of 2008. This isn't a big commercial opportunity, but if the report is positive, it should breathe some life back into Nuvelo shares.
