OK we have 26 shipping routes around the world that the BDI looks at. Shipping stocks are slaves to the BDI...Capesize Ships (over 100,000 tons) make up only 10% of the World Fleet but move 62% of Dry Bulk Traffic(at a given time Australia has 35/40, China 20, Brazil 40-50, S. Africa 1-7)....Panamax (60,000-80,000) make up 19% of the world fleet and move 20% of the Dry Bulk Traffic (given time Australia has 40-60, China 20-35, Brazil 3-12, S Africa 0-1)...my theory is...if I can ID most of the actual ships and keep an eye on what they are doing...I can get a handle on the global demand?? I am not going to focus on the smaller Supramax or Handysize ships for this(Australia 20-25, China 10-25, Brazil 1-10 and S. Africa 0-1)....so I wonder how many big ships are there...this portfolio should answer that...

per Yahoo 5 Capesize, 31 panamax, 2 handymax but I found most of the number of ships on Yahoo are wrong...yet, it appears it may be 7 Capemax. The Caps and Panas move mostly Coal and Iron Ore...yet some grain for feedstock too. The Handysize moves Ferts, steel products, minerals, ores, construction materials, etc....here are the names from their website...Our Fleet Name Type DWT Year Built Capri Bulk Carrier 172,579 2001 Manasota Bulk Carrier 171,061 2004 Alameda Bulk Carrier 170,662 2001 Mystic Bulk Carrier 170,040 2008 Flecha Bulk Carrier 170,012 2004 Brisbane Bulk Carrier 151,066 1995 Samsara Bulk Carrier 150,393 1996 Avoca Bulk Carrier 76,629 2004 Mendocino Bulk Carrier 76,623 2002 Maganari Bulk Carrier 75,941 2001 Saldanha Bulk Carrier 75,707 2004 Coronado Bulk Carrier 75,706 2000 Conquistador Bulk Carrier 75,607 2000 Ligari Bulk Carrier 75,583 2004 Waikiki Bulk Carrier 75,473 1995 Solana Bulk Carrier 75,100 1995 Capitola Bulk Carrier 74,832 2001 Samatan Bulk Carrier 74,823 2001 Bargara Bulk Carrier 74,814 2002 Sonoma Bulk Carrier 74,786 2001 Redondo Bulk Carrier 74,716 2000 Majorca Bulk Carrier 74,477 2005 Catalina Bulk Carrier 74,432 2005 Oregon Bulk Carrier 74,204 2002 Ecola Bulk Carrier 73,931 2001 Heinrich Oldendorff Bulk Carrier 73,925 2001 Ocean Crystal Bulk Carrier 73,688 1999 Padre Bulk Carrier 73,601 2004 Positano Bulk Carrier 73,288 2000 Toro Bulk Carrier 73,035 1995 Marbella Bulk Carrier 72,561 2000 Primera Bulk Carrier 72,495 1998 Xanadu Bulk Carrier 72,270 1999 La Jolla Bulk Carrier 72,126 1997 Lacerta Bulk Carrier 71,862 1994 Iguana Bulk Carrier 70,349 1996 Paragon Bulk Carrier 71,250 1995 Tonga Bulk Carrier 66,786 1984 Clipper Gemini Bulk Carrier 51,201 2003 Voc Galaxy Bulk Carrier 51,201 2002

OK I have decided to try and track the Capesize ships to see how global growth is doing...these are all the drybulk shippers that I could find that trade on the USA exchanges...about 40 Capesizes were IDed...which means there are about 60 more floating around the world...still working on it.
