Kayne Anderson MLP Investment Company is a newly organized, non-diversified, closed-end investment company. Our investment objective is to obtain a high after-tax total return by investing at least 85% of our total assets (including borrowings) in energy-related master limited partnerships and their affiliates (collectively, "MLPs"), and in other companies that, as their principal business, operate assets used in the gathering, transporting, processing, storing, refining, distributing, mining or marketing natural gas, natural gas liquids (including propane), crude oil, refined petroleum products or coal (collectively with MLPs, "Midstream Energy Companies").
The Company intends to have invested 50% (but not lsess than 40%) of its total assets in publicly traded securities of MLPs and other Midstream Energy Companies and 50% (but not more than 60%) of its total assets in unregistered or otherwise restricted securities of MLPs and other Midstream Energy Companies, including securities issued by private companies. Investing in unregistered securities involves a higher degree of risk. The company may invest up to 15% of its total assets in any single issuer.
