All companies listed here derive much or all of their value from an array of investments in undervalued or cash-generating assets, equities, and/or debt. Many of these picks have managers that engage in value investing, turnarounds, shareholder activisim, and business development. In theory, an investor can purchase a basket of these stocks knowing that strong managers and investors are running their portfolio. Ideally, book value will grow and compound over time at a higher rate than the market, thus producing outsized gains.
