Cyclacel Pharmaceuticals (CYCC): Two weeks ago brokerage and investment bank Piper Jaffray reported that Cyclacel Pharmaceuticals would likely report positive data during the Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). Cyclacel’s key drug is ‘Sapacitabine’ which is currently being testing for Acute Myelogenous Leukemia, which is commonly referred to as AML and accounts for 1.2% of all cancer deaths in the United States. Sapacitabine is also being testing in patients who have myelodysplastic syndrome, commonly referred to as MDS. The data from these two drugs alone has been extremely positive: in early February Cyclacel said: “Available data from our ongoing Phase 2 studies of sapacitabine include complete remissions at all doses tested with good tolerability, which support previously-reported Phase 1 findings and suggest that this agent may address a substantial, unmet medical need in older patients with AML and MDS."On February 6th 2009, Cyclacel Pharmaceuticals announced a fast-track agreement with the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for a Phase II test planned for sapacitabine. Piper Jaffray has a $3 price target on the stock.
