Basket of outperforming securities based on the winning strategy of combining my own analysis with the unabashed thievery of others' good ideas. I like finding GAARP (Growth at a Reasonable Price) so I tend to favor more established companies or those smaller firms who are trading at attractive valuations relative to their growth rate (usually a PEG below 1.0)

  • MDT
    Medtronic Inc
  • $39.62
  • +0.03%
  • $39.59

Wide moat company with a stranglehold on the ICD market. Some recent exectution hiccups but the population demographics favor this company heavily over the next 10-15 years.

  • JNJ
    Johnson And Johns
  • $62.31
  • +0.60%
  • $61.82

Perhaps the most well run company in the world. JNJ is a cash flow machine and pays a bullet proof and growing dividend.

  • PDLI
    Pdl Biopharma
  • $7.90
  • -1.37%
  • $8.02

PDL Biosciences has partnerships with DNA to market certain drugs. Has been up and down over the last 24 months, but it could be a homerun stock. Speculative play, but I believe it's worth the risk for those with a 3-5 horizon.

  • $0.41

Another speculative play. Trades near 52 low but has a significant chance to benefit from the rollout of new gaming systems (Wii, PS). $6 stock that could go to $10 very fast. Not a long term holding though.

  • KMP
    Kinder Morgan Ene
  • $55.99
  • -0.41%
  • $56.20

Kinder Morgan Energy Partners is a MLP that owns most of the recently bought Kinder Morgan Inc (KMI). Basically owns and manages pipelines which makes it insulated against commodity price swings. Great dividend of about 6.5% that is growing approximately 7-10% per year. Superb core holding.

  • LVLT

  • $1.22

Disclosure dictates that I say I work in this industry. While I'm not enamoured with LVLT's long term business model, I think the assets that provide high-speed Internet bandwidth cannot be ignored. While they have alot of debt, this may be remedied soon via some balance sheet de-leveraging. At some point, one of the two main telecom players has to buy LVLT (and Q) or risk it being snapped up by a cable provider or someone else.

  • RRGB
    Red Robin Gourmet
  • $15.91
  • +1.08%
  • $15.84

Red Robin Gourmet Burgers is a solid restaurant selling at a very cheap price. They have had some operational issues, but insiders bought at these levels back in November. Risk vs. Reward is very positive here. With most bad news in the stock already, this could be a 2 points down, 10 points up in the next 6 months.

I'm not as sold on Apple as some, but you can't argue with the results. I'm not sure people are going to go nuts over the iPhone in the same way as the iPod, but hubris prevents me saying so. On the pullback around $90 today, I'm adding it to my portfolio.
