Analysts at Deutsche Bank Securities maintain their hold rating on Canadian Solar Inc (CSIQ). The target price has been raised from $22 to $45. In a research note published yesterday, the analysts mention that the company has posted robust 1Q08 results. Canadian Solar has issued its 2Q08 guidance ahead of the consensus. There is upside to the company’s guidance, given the sale of the UMG-Si modules, the analysts say.

Some big movers among stocks based in China Thursday were, China Shenghuo Pharmaceutical (KUN), which exploded higher by 43% to $5.40; China Architectural Engineering (RCH), which soared 23% to $10.18; ReneSola, which ripped higher by 17% to $26.21; and Asia Time (TYM), which jumped 16% to $5.78.

Also in the Chinese solar sector, LDK Solar (LDK) said first-quarter revenues surged 21% due to strong demand for the company's solar wafers. Revenues jumped to $233.4 million, vs. $73.4 million from a year earlier and first-quarter net income surged to $49.8 million, vs. $21.6 million from a year ago. The company said second-quarter sales will come in between the range of $278 million to $288 million, vs. estimates of $247 million and second-quarter revenues will be between $1.08 billion to $1.18 billion, vs. estimates of $1.07 billion.

RBC Capital Markets reiterated its outperform rating on Chinese alternative energy company JA Solar (JASO) and raised its price target from $21 to $26. In a note to clients, RBC analysts said JA Solar is well-positioned to take market share due to the company's strong product mix. RBC also raised its EPS estimates for 2008 from 71 cents to 96 cents.

Shares of SINA Corporation, a Chinese Web portal, popped 5.7% after the company reported blowout first-quarter profits and raised its second-quarter revenue guidance well above Wall Street expectations, due to strong corporate advertising revenues spurred by the upcoming Beijing Olympics. Net income for the first-quarter jumped 73% to $19.6 million and net revenue surged 39% to $71.3 million, vs. previous guidance of $66 million to $68 million. Sina said second-quarter revenues will come in between the range of $88 million to $90 million, vs. Wall Street estimates of $81.7 million. Citi Investment Research upgraded shares of Sina to buy from hold and raised its price target to $65 to $42, citing strong advertising growth. Susquehanna Financial also bumped its price target for Sina from $45 to $61 and raised its estimates for 2008 and 2009.

China’s leading online travel agent, Ctrip.com reported a 52% jump in first-quarter net profits at $14.1 million or 20 cents a share, vs. $8.4 million a year earlier and a 47% spike in sales at $52.3 million, vs. Wall Street estimates of $46.5 million, due to strong demand for airline tickets. Following the earnings report, Susquehanna downgraded shares of CTRP from positive to neutral, citing valuation.

Shenyang-based biotechnology company 3SBio said first-quarter net revenues rose 56% to $7.91 million and first-quarter net income jumped 22% to $2.82 million, due to strong sales growth for its core products EPIAO and TPIAO.
